Driver charged with hit-and-run after school bus crash Friday in Johnston County

A Johnston County school bus was involved in a crash Friday afternoon according to the Highway Patrol.

FOUR OAKS, N.C. — The man accused of hitting a school bus from Four Oaks Middle School on Friday in Johnston County and running from the scene appeared in court on Monday.

30-year-old Trevor Grice appeared in court around 2 p.m. and made an unusual statement.

"I didn't even know who I was when I got here," Grice said.

At 3:42 p.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Webb Mill Road at Crocker Lane involving a Nissan Altima and a school bus.

A Nissan Altima heading north on Crocker Lane tried to turn left onto Webb Mill Road but didn't yield correctly and hit a school bus going east on Webb Mill Road.

A Johnston County school bus has been involved in a crash Friday afternoon according to the Highway Patrol. 

The Nissan flipped over. The bus veered off the road, hit a ditch and ended up in someone's yard.

The Nissan driver ditched the car and ran into the woods on foot.

There were thirteen kids on the bus, eight of whom were hurt but not seriously and taken to nearby hospitals.

Police arrested and charged Grice with the following:.

  • Felony hit-and-run
  • No liability insurance
  • Expired registration
  • Drive while license revoked
  • Display fictitious registration
  • Expired inspection
  • Unsafe movement

Sky 5 captured the scene with over a dozen emergency vehicles and police on site.

Families were able to pick up students at Four Oaks Middle School.

The incident is still under investigation and Grice remains at the Johston County Jail under $100,000 bond.
